TC hood frame holes

Post by Ray White » Sat Mar 25, 2023 10:15 am

I have noticed there are small holes in the top corners of the bows but I don't know what they are for.

There are also two holes in the upright bars on both sides.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Ray.

Ray -
2 holes in rear hood bow - #4BA x1" slotted countersunk brass screw with nuts and cup washer used here. Fastens the bow, webbing strip, and hood together. Screw goes through hood right at the intersection of the seams - see photo. The cup washer had a rubber sealing grommet underneath it.

2 holes in center bow - not all TCs had or used these holes, but they were used to attach the webbing to this bow. The original webbing had a second piece sewn on the bottom side where it lays across this bow (piece about 6" long). The head of the screw was sandwiched between the layers of the webbing, preventing chafing on the hood fabric. I don't know of many people who use this nowadays.
Photos of an original TC hood attached to show this.

Thank you Tom. That is very useful.

Any idea what the holes in the uprights are for?

I recently bought a couple of small rubber buffers (that are supposed to stop chafing with the side screens) but perhaps there was something more substantial originally?

Ray, you are correct, the holes in the uprights are for the small fixing screws that attach the rubber buffers.
