Re: Attaching new side panels
Here's few photos which might help. The key thing is that there are 4 small rail pieces of metal which sit on the ash rails surrounding the door opening. You will spot weld the side pane to these as you fit around the door. The pictures are more helpful than a lot of words. You might have to cut a c...

Re: Voltage regulator issues
If you are doing this ourself, I'd be interested to know who supplied the parts you are installing? The complete units are bit pricey in North America.
Thanks, Bryan.

Re: ‘48 MG TC
No, I'm keeping those timbers because they are sound and I want to keep the original marking. Most of the other wood on the body, I have replaced. I added wooden dowels to the screw holes to reinforce the threaded area which had iron rot.

Interesting Discussion: Here's a photo of TC6984 which was originally ed and the resprayed red but the owner prior to me. You can see the factory Batch number written in chalk on the original red paint. There are few records of these numbers being found- I know Doug Peyton was interested in collecti...

Re: Paint for Diff Cover
I used POR15 because it helps seal the rivets which tend to leak. It looks shinny black originally.

I just measured mine since it is out of the car and accessible; with the flanges on I get 43".

Re: Clutch Mystery
Now that we know where those springs belong- any suggestions on where I can source a couple? Seems like a waste to throw out a pressure plate for a set of tiny springs that wouldn't even weigh and ounce!
Thanks, Bryan.

Clutch Mystery
When I remove the bell housing from TC 6984, these small springs were lying in the bottom of the housing. No idea what they are for and don't seem to find them in the exploded diagrams for TC clutch.
Can any shed and light on this?
Thanks Bryan.

Re: Chassis rails
For TC 6984 the side metal panels you indicate were pitted where the felt runs along the inside of the panel. The I took the sheet side panels to my British metal guy he had a look at them and said it would be much better to supply me with new panels so he made plywood templates of the shape and ham...

Re: Handbrake Cable Grease fitting
Thanks, I will adapt if I have to, to SAE North American for the rest of the rig. I know the tubing is 3/16", the original side is complete but I will need everything from the fitting you mention out to the grease zirk. The threaded end which receive the nut for the adjustment is 1/4BSF 26, and I ha...

Handbrake Cable Grease fitting
I'm currently restoring my handbrake cables. One came with the car the other was missing. This is a used replacement. Would anyone know what the size is for the fitting which threads into this? It's very close to 5/16", might be a pipe thread, perhaps. And is there a SAE equivalent that I can thread...

Re: TC carpets
When taking apart TC6984 I found this sound deadening which I thought might be original- later I realized this car had it's rear section replaced as the back wooded panel of the side curtain box had rotten out. Not sure if this is correct of not but I plan to put a more modern sound deadening materi...

Re: MG TC Dumb Iron/Eyelet Casting
I just finished mine and one bolt is correct. I had to ever so slightly push my frame open to get the cross pipe to slide in, then the pin bolts for the spring pulled it all together.

TC Rear Tower To Spring
Now that I'm doing serious work on the TC rear end I noticed an old repair to the based of the left side tower which connects to the spring. I knew the right side tower was damaged and had planned to use Steve Simmons repair method of welding in extra steel plates on the upper side the tower base. H...

TC Badge Bar Color
Here's a simple question: were the posts which support the badge bar at the ends painted body color? One of mine seems to be very light weight (pot metal?) and is silver, the other is all rusted up. Were they right and left handed? Both of mine point the same way.
Thanks, Bryan.

Re: Best Timber Parts
This is an important question because most restorers are better at metal and body work than wood. I'm a reasonable experienced wood worker and I chose to get the key body wood from Craig Seabrook in Ohio. I was happy with what I got from him. The really important parts on my view are first and forem...

TC Front End Improvements-Handling
I have been researching this lately and note that here was a flurry of interest in this with Post here about a decade ago. I'm interested to learn what the current recommendations are and how people feel about the modifications they have done. First let me define my uses for TC 6984. My wife and I i...
